Horse Keeping Philosophy

At Cedar Tree Stables we believe that happy horses are healthy horses! This means we work hard to find appropriate (group or individual) turn out situations in which horses can feel safe, secure, and fulfill their needs for social interaction. Horses are turned out daily, regardless of weather (they may come in early for extreme situations!). Forage is also a key component at CTS- horses are fed hay between 2-4 times daily, and on grass when seasons (and metabolisms) allow, horses are fed all of the hay they will clean up. We use a variety of slow feed hay nets/bags to ensure constant access to hay tailored to each horses preferred way of eating. Each of the CTS farms has different and unique amenities for both horse and rider.

sam

Sam Stevens- a life long horse person, has made it her mission to figure out how to make Each individual horse happy... through her extensive background in equine management (eventing, dressage, hunters, fox hunting and general horse keeping), she has developed a variety of farms designed to meet specific horse (and rider!) combinations! With a firm hold on maintaining equine happiness, Sam (and CTS) strive to make sure that each horse is living its best possible life- to ensure that it’s owners goals are met. This “horse first” mentality makes for a unique boarding experience, giving the equine an equal voice in his or her management.

Diana

Diana- is a horsewoman at heart, having traveled extensively throughout the US riding on a variety of terrain, has the know how and the can do attitude to get you through a more technical trail! Her attention to horse- happiness is unprecedented, she is keenly aware of herd dynamics and takes her time to learn what makes each horse tick. Diana’s effervescent personality makes her a horse (and human!) favorite, from the get go!
John

John

I learned to ride properly,as my mother said, at Pine Tree Stables in the early 60's. After retiring I was in the right time/right place to get a job at Myopia Hunt Club helping with morning turn-out and care of the horses. I worked with some wonderful people and my passion for horses and horse care was rekindled. I love taking care of my old girls, guy, and The Littles' at the Retirement Barn. With Samantha's guidance my knowledge of horse care and horsemanship continues to grow. I also enjoy riding with my trail-buddies at CTS Ipswich on my Morgan mare Pippin. The undisputed “Queen of the Stable”.

erica

"Hailing from Maryland, Erica has been plopped on horses since babyhood and started taking lessons at age 8. At 11, she started playing polo and continued playing competitively through her interscholastic and intercollegiate years at Garrison Forrest School and Skidmore College. After a stint doing archaeology, she's back with horses as a Massachusetts licensed riding instructor, a U.S. Polo Association Certified Polo Instructor, and barn hand at Cedar Tree Stables. A horse owner since age 12, she still loves stealing her horses' dignity via dress up."
